• Our contracting firm, Western Restoration Services established in 1980, specializes in the remodel of large apartment projects, with a core component of that business being the replacement of deteriorated water and waste pipe systems. (Over 10,000 units completed since 1998) Replacement of existing, in place pipe systems is a destructive process as it requires the removal of wall, ceiling and sometimes floor sections to allow for removal of old piping and routing of the new pipe system within the same walls, ceilings and floors. The necessity of cutting away walls and ceilings often triggered a need for asbestos and/or mold abatement adding additional layers of cost to the process. It was this compounding of costs that prompted our initial inquiry into an alternative to destructive pipe replacement.
  
  
  
• We were generally aware of a process for pressure injection of an epoxy coating inside pipe systems. Our investigation led us to discuss the process and components of the process with various companies from West Germany, to England, to Shanghai. After thoroughly investigating the methods, materials and practices used for injection coating pipe systems, we concluded that these industry practices did not deliver the consistent results we required. We formed PRT to develop our own process and coating material.
